macos might be similar but not based off of Linux

I stand corrected, you are right. Thank you for the correction.

(For anyone wondering the reason I am wrong:

MacOS is based off of Unix , and is fully unix compliant and certified. Linux is inspired by Unix, and very similar to Unix in many ways, and tries to be (and mostly is) compliant.

So MacOS is not at all based off of linux.)

If I update the software version on my phone and then do a factory reset doesn’t go back to the original software version the phone came with?
If not does that mean it is sort of flashing a new rom without being in fast boot?

A factory reset will not touch a system update.
A update does not flash partitions rather tweeks it.

Can someone break this down for a dummy?

Can some1 explain the basics of the different types of root like systemless root etc?
Also, is there any way to run adb commands on the phone itself? (I have sonim xp5s which u cant install apps only through adb. even a terminal emulator doesnt work. So i want to know if the same way webadb works if theres something like that for the phone itself like maybe connecting through wifi. I tried ladb app but it didnt work). Thanks!

Yes with Shizuku.

@sams-club explains what Shizuku is over here.

Here’s a guide to installing apps on the Sonim Xp3Plus using Shizuku.
Everything should be the same on the Xp5 Plus as the Xp3 Plus, (although I never tried the Xp5 Plus).
On the Xp5800, you will need to run an ADB command from a computer to start Shizuku.

If I have an activity I want to block but still want to be able to update the app, what is the best way to do that?

I flashed a patched boot image with magisk onto my Cat S22. It was around 34MB. When I backed up my boot image today on adbshell>su>dd… the size was 64MB. As a beginner I simply don’t get this.

If I replace my boot animation from four pictures to one will that make the reboot faster?

For some reason the partitions are stored as one file bigger then they are. Its sort like there is empty space inside. If you unpack it then repack it it will only repack the space that is needed.
I don’t know if I got it correct but don’t worry that you are missing some files. This is normal on every phone.

I would guess that it is programmed to run 4 pictures so I don’t know what will happen if you delete 3. You could try but I doubt it will make it anything noticeably faster.

Of course not.

The boot animation is designed to stretch to however long it takes to boot, not vice versa.

I thought so but a least it Will save the time it takes to load the image.
