Buyer Beware: The Unspoken Truth About Those “Heimisheh” WhatsApp Bargain Groups

For the longest time, I’ve been watching a trend grow across WhatsApp groups, statuses, and channels, and it’s really starting to get under my skin.

The business idea seems simple enough: someone wants to make money, so they start a heimisheh WhatsApp Status, post content, and collect ad revenue. Fine.

But what content do they post? Instead of providing real value—like news, entertainment, or even harmless lashon hara (just kidding!)—they make a disastrous decision: they launch a “bargain,” “glitch,” or “deals” channel.

The problem is that in this world, there’s rarely such a thing as a true bargain. If something looks insanely cheap, there’s almost always a reason. In the extremely rare case that a price is a typo, the person who made it will likely get fired. But usually, a human being set that price, not because they’re a gambler, but because they’ve calculated how to make a profit from the “deal.”

So, these annoying bargain statuses post the “deal.” An unsuspecting, trusting person sees it, buys it, and eventually figures it out. Or they don’t. I’m not sure which is worse.

To make matters worse, many of the websites linked from these statuses charge their own little “fee,” which is straight-up oina’ah (the prohibition of overcharging)—it’s legit stealing.

Here’s a Perfect Example:

This was recently posted on a WhatsApp status

A link

Which led to this link

And finally, the website's checkout

So, it looks like an insane bargain, right? But it’s not true!

Here’s the scam they’re running:

They buy a base-model $250 HP laptop. Then, they “upgrade” it themselves with about $80 worth of cheap, no-name RAM and SSDs. Finally, they sell this concoction for $600 with a FAKE $2,000 “original price” that never, ever existed.

Even fully upgraded, the Intel i3-N305 processor in this laptop is entry-level junk. The machine is worth $400 at its absolute maximum, not $600! These statuses are just there to get you.

Now, I can’t personally investigate every single deal to prove whether it’s a bargain or not, but I know tech. And if one is a scam, and another is a scam—you can best believe they’re all scams.

Thanks for understanding.

My final advice: never, ever buy anything from these tiny, private “heimisheh” websites. They are just out there for your money, not for you.

If someone’s out for money, that’s fine. Become rich. I don’t care. But do it cleanly. Not through the P3 program in NYC, not through nursing homes killing old people, and not by ripping off innocent people like a Pakistani street seller.

All the best,

TripleU

Someone sent me this “deal” asking if they should buy, told them to just move on.

Lol Intel processor 8 core, they’re reluctant to even tell you that its an Intel i3-N305. Even if it would be a new generation i5 it wouldn’t be a deal, much less a crazy deal. I’m not on whatsApp, but I do get asked about laptop deals often.

wrong, but they you find it is not by going to dandeals whatsapp groups etc its a talent some people have

I hear. But can you explain why bargains exist (not rarely)?

There are sites where you can find good deals, but you always have to use your brain.

Woot, which is owned by Amazon, often has great deals, but they always claim that the original price is way higher than it actually is.

DansDeals is good I Think

100 percent, you never buy something because dandeals posted a once in a lifetime deal rather when something is need you do your homework

One million reasons…
the fact is these stuff cost pennies to produce and for various reasons they could be cheap usually because people wouldn’t buy it otherwise (black friday), to promote new products, to clear out excess inventory etc.

The point is they way you get cheap stuff is not buy bargains its by knowing where and when to buy your stuff.

used to be better… its not like they don’t have good deals its that its one percent of the time.

Aha.

That’s why they make it waaaaay cheaper than normal price?

That’s why it’s much cheaper than usual?

That’s why it’s much cheaper?

All I’m saying is, if it’s a clearance - fine. Usually not online. Promote newer products? Like we’re not talking about manufacturers bargains - were talking about random sellers… people won’t buy it otherwise - I mean, I’m not even sure what that means… is that a reason to put it 70% off? I think it means it’s a flop of a product….

Now don’t get me wrong - 25% off makes sense for the reasons (3 out of the 999,999,997 reasons) you mentioned.

But a “glitch” a “bargain” a flash sale - except on Black Friday and Cyber Monday - are almost always a scam.

Nobody wants to lose 70% on an item. Nobody.

ya wasn’t talking about that much

What about black Friday that is coming up next month is there any real deals? Or same scam?

Real deals but these days you have AI - give it a quick ask if it’s legit or not.

They actually called it “Pointless price” for years…

But now they call it “Reference Price”, and removed the Amazon Overlord joke. Big companies ruin everything.

Also lets just talk about laptops in general where its very hard to compare and cross-reference because manufacturers seemingly make it hard on purpose! (and freezers and mattresses but lets save that for another time). Most items a simple google search can tell you what the price should be. But not laptops. So here is my general guideline, feel free to disagree, but please explain if you do.

  1. This avoids like 90% of the issues. Only reputable sites for laptops. Amazon is a no-no, unless its sold by Amazon.com. So generally you would stick to manufacturers sites, and some Big box stores like Best-Buy, Newegg, B&H. (its not like I would never buy elsewhere, but be vigilant-the same lsiting on Amazon sold by 2 diff seller with diff refurbishing processes can be worlds apart)
  2. No laptops that manufactures didnt even care enough to put a name on!! “Hp 15.6” laptop” vs Hp Pavillion laptop… Also helps that know you can compare somewhat
  3. If they dont tell you the processor name in the title its probably junk.
  4. ALWAYS look up the processor model to see what year its from to get an idea how old the laptop really is.

Let me know your thoughts

its called marketing not just Heimisheh all companies do that when selling products not only Jewish

Sorry but I’m a groyper

any comments….

You can find deals that are legit, but generally not 70% off, as the saying goes “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is”

When I see a decent deal I screenshot it for someone that might want it, below are some of the screenshots from over the years. Keep in mind I edit videos, so many of these are higher end with emphasis on the GPU.
