Finally - A solution for kosher and dpad compatible Google Maps?

Seems fine although the whole app is a bit slow but probably not much to do for a low ram flip phone

Speak to @keepitkosher

Maybe yeah maybe no

This is true, but they don’t cover nearly as many languages. I can consider shipping these as options.

While driving move map doesn’t work. If the navigation card is highlighted it moves the card and if not it doesn’t move anything but gets stuck in moving mode.
I’m on dumb course right now and it’s a little complicated so sorry if anything comes out wierd.

Are you using Vela Maps or Dpad Maps?

D pad restricted v0.0.230

I looked into both and they’re in now, but optional (I kept Whisper as the default). You can keep them all downloaded simultaneously and choose which to use in settings.

I did it this way because Moonshine and SenseVoice are both lighter on the CPU/better latency, but they are actually heavier on RAM and they take up more space. Whisper tiny is 58 MB, Moonshine is 101 MB, SenseVoice is 154 MB, and the bigger model holds more in memory once loaded. So on a tight-RAM device Whisper tiny is still the lightest to keep resident; the new two win on speed, not footprint.

SenseVoice does English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Cantonese, Moonshine is English only, and Whisper covers every language Vela supports including Hebrew. So Whisper stays the default so nothing regresses, and the other two are there to opt into if you speak one of the languages they handle. There’s also a language-aware fallback so picking a limited engine won’t break dictation if you switch to a language it can’t do.

I think that Moonshine has “flavors” for other languages.

Yeah I should have clarified that each language is an individual model. I could build something to pull the current language and use MS for that, but seems like a waste of time considering the larger model size and memory usage.

@SILB hopefully all your issues fixed

it’s amazing, one small problem though on TCL flip 2, words are a little spaced out, as well as the search in the corner, is cut off. other than that, it’s amazing thank you so much for your work.

Which version

Can you create a GitHub issue?

Just thought of something some it opens and immediately closes.

Granted mic and audio?

that’s because the dpi can’t handle such small text, you need to sacrifice for the small screen. You have to choose between having small letters and fitting more on the screen, or larger letters but fitting less on the screen

Thanks for clarifying that before I spent time on it

Is voice search working for you on the tcl? Vela voice

Btw, all this dpad stuff is coockoo, can be 2 hours sometime for full test. And it keeps growing.

btw I’m planning a d-pad focus engine, I already had to make some of it for my d-sms app, but it’ll take longer to make than yapchik

It’s going to break your :brain:

I wish you luck it would be very useful

Maybe you can use some helpers from vela-dpad

@mufandchush pushing a build now, the app will now say why the voice feature fails if it does.

Also fixed a bug with voice in general.
