How To Modify The ROM Of Kyocera's

Does anyone know how to modify the rom of the Kyocera flip phones?
I tried already everything. Tag uses a rom called purifone and they modified the Verizon upgrade program and it installs there rom
Does anyone know how to edit programs?

If you have a firehose for it you should be able to pull off the ROM

Did you ever find one? i’ve looked around a bit. Couldnt see one anywhere

What version? check the specs online and see what chipset it has (e.g. the DuraXV Extreme has QM215) and search for drivers and loaders for that chipset, it will probably take some trial and error (and you may install a few viruses) but you may get it. As a side note, the DuraXV Extreme + has a mediatek chipset so you could try mtkclient.

Don’t worry.
The 2 guides I’ll post will help you.

  • unpacking system.img
  • wwrMTK readback

So for mtk devices, you’ll be good.
Stay tuned

you sure its going to work for the kyocera dura xv??? i think it needs a firehose which is not public… do you have a way to bypass that?

Never messed with that device. Don’t know

what about the other devices that are qualcomm do you know anything about making a custom ROM

Looking into this - specifically for blocking recovery on kyoceras. I don’t think it is necessary to modify the update program - just to spoof the server and download your own fw. As far as I know, thats how its done for puriphone. Anyone care to look into this?

Did anyone ever try using one click root tools or similar rooting methods on the Kyoceras?
They’re running older versions of Android, and are probably more vulnerable to exploits.

From what I saw from someone at tag, the e4710 can be rooted with kingoroot. But not reliably as in sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t

which is that?

Kyocera Dura XE (E4710)

thats the model from att website

The e4710 is irrelevant.
It was a total flop, no one buys it or sells it, it makes the mind phone look like a best seller, and we can forget about it and pretend that it doesn’t exist.
The question is about the other ones, e4610, e4810, e4811, e4830.

takeh true. For the other phones, TAG uses purifone or whatever other companies they use. They have their own way of doing it, which as @sh7411usa said is probably by spoofing it to flash their own software

adb reboot bootloader works on kyoceras, and once in bootloader, fastboot devices finds the device. If you set OEM Unlocking in developer options, technically you should be able to unlock the bootloader and then theoretically can wipe the recovery partition. – Except that testing over here with an old s2720 (cadence), it seems that the bootloader is not preloaded with any of the standard fastboot commands. for sure not fastboot oem unlock or fastboot flashing unlock. I wonder if there is any hope pursuing this angle? I’ll pin my bets on some sort of custom oem command. Maybe someone can dig something up on custom fastboot commands on another kyocera device and we can try it with a flip phone?

If anybody has the stock LK.bin from it you can see the commands in there

I have the stock FW for some of the kyoceras on a hard drive somewhere, i’ll take a look when i get back.
