There are three components required to get the speaker working.

1. New kernel (lives in the boot partition - tells the software how to interact with the hardware)
2. New dtbo partition (the device tree - tells the kernel where the hardware lives)
3. New /vendor/firmware files (the actual micro firmware for the speaker - tells the speaker how to interpret instructions from the kernel)

All of the “new” components are reverse compatible with the old hardware.
