I’m trying to root an mtk device.
I’ve never used mtkclient before and am looking for help with it.
I tried setting it up on Windows, and gave up.
I have a bootable Linux iso that I think has mtkclient already setup, but I have no idea how to check, or how to run mtkclient or use it.
Can anyone help me?
use a tool like rufus or ventoy to turn put your iso on your usb as a bootable drive, then turn off your computer, plug in the usb and turn it on while pressing the key that gets you into boot menu (on some devices its f2, f12, del or something else) and boot from the usb. once it boots click on the mtkclient app icon and it should run the GUI, it’s pretty intuitive from there
do i need linux installed to do this?
No
The livedvd is running linux on the usb (the livedvd.iso is a linux system that will run on the usb instead of your computer)
whats livedvd?
mtkclient has an option to run on windows using python, the setup is complicated and has a lot of steps. There is another option to download the livedvd which is a linux system with mtkclient preinstalled and ready to run, it’s about 6gb (here is an older version that is about 4gb) and you can “install” it on a usb with rufus or a similar program, and then run linux off the usb itself (by plugging it into your computer and choosing it in the boot menu)
does this give me full access to linux or only mtkclient?
it is a fully functional linux system BUT there are two severe limitations 1. it is running off your usb and ram, it will be very slow, and 2. since it’s taking place on ram, nothing you do will be saved, after you turn it off it will go right back to it’s original state with only the files and programs it came with, if you want to save anything copy it to another drive
I had already done all that, but didn’t see any mtkclient app.
It looks like it was a random iso.
I just deleted it.
on the screen there should be a green square icon that says MTK in it
I have wsa is there any way to get mtk on the sub system?
Even if you got it working, I’m not sure how you would pass through your device.
Could you explain what you mean?
When you get mtkclient installed on wsa, you would need to pass through your phone to wsa for it to be recognized.
