this happens to look similar to what that termux dev wrote in the issue @ars18 just posted a link to.
According to a report by F-Droid, when Google spoke about working on a way to allow experienced users to sideload APKs, they were bluffing.
Apparently, they don’t have any plans when or how they’ll do it, and it doesn’t sound like this advanced flow will happen before sideloading is locked down in September.
Over forty organizations and companies, including F-Droid, Proton, KDE, Codeberg, The Tor Project, Vivaldi, and the Free Software Foundation, signed a kol korei calling on Sundar Pichai, Sergey Brin, Larry Page, and the rest of Google’s hanhalah, to stop with their shenanigans, and rescind the gezeirah about developer verification .
Google finally announced what the advanced flow for installing unverified apps will be, and I love it and think it’s really smart.
If you want to allow installing unverified apps, you’ll have to:
- Enable it in developer options.
- Confirm you’re not being pushed into it.
- Restart your phone.
- Wait 24 hours
- Authenticate (device pin or biometrics)
- Choose whether to allow installing unverified apps for seven days, or permanently.
You’ll then be able to install apps from unverified developers.
This process is designed to make it a lot harder for scammers to trick people into installing malware, while still giving advanced users the freedom to install whatever they want on their devices.
Interesting idea. Just curious, if you choose 7 days would you still need to wait 24 hours the next time?
I’d assume so.
This could make that aspect of kashering a phone easier no? Blocked dev options…

I mean you don’t have to block all installation no?

All this is only for phones certified by Google, which means most Android dumbphones aren’t affected.
Saw somewhere online that it also doesn’t affect adb installs, you can install apps with adb without the whole verification process
Useful for the first 24 hours
