This version of the app has press as default, but it’s already removed in the next release, partly to not interfere with pressing the star key regularly but also to use it as a reset back to the main grid when the overlay is active.
Curious to hear any other thoughts you have! Thanks for giving it a go.

What are your ideas if you don’t mind sharing?
Can you give more details about the steps you took to install the app, configure it, any logs, etc? I don’t run into issues on Android 11 in my emulator but need more info from actual devices.

No issues downloaded the APK and that’s it
I think that u should add that you can’t run the app until you allow the permissions it needs because it took me a few seconds to find the button that brings you to the permissions

I switched that to hold and still have the same problem.
Thanks! I’ll add that in documentation.

Is the problem that you can’t use the star key as you normally would or that the overlay doesn’t activate? Can you provide device info, installation steps you took, logs, etc?
Just realized your right I have the same exact issue @wheredidmysleepgo can you fix that the app only looks out for a long press and should not affect the regular use of the *button?

My issue is that the star key doesn’t work only works now to activate this app
Meaning, that I cannot use the star when the app is not active (e.g. star in dialer, opens features dialog for typing)
Installed it from file manager using package installer on a Kyocera e4830

Yeah I’ve been intercepting all star key presses. It’ll be fixed in the next release, hopefully before the weekend is over.

Can you also add the ability to switch the activation key.
I can add that to my to do list but in the meantime, could 0 work better as an activation key? Still thinking about the best way to activate but ultimately would also rather avoid using a button that generally, across different devices, is tied to system functions.

In my opinion 0 is worse since it’s a more used button

Eventually I can allow the user to choose, but any suggestions for now?

Stick with the star as long as the button can still function as a regular star key

app-debug-fix1.apk (9.9 MB)
app-debug-fix2.apk (9.9 MB)
If you could test these two and tell me which if them works (or neither).
Changes made:
- try to address star down intercept
- default now is hold to activate
- new gesture section in settings
