The Cat S22 Flip might have RCS, but only the native messaging app on the Flip makes use of the external screen to display incoming messages. If you switch to the much superior Google Messages (with RCS support), then you give up external display support. So I had Ox Alpha & Claude collab on reverse engineering the external display API to create a simple app that can forward your Google Messages notifications (+ experimental support for all other SMS apps) to the external display, just like the native option. In my limited testing, it seemed to work fine. It consumes almost no resources and is easy to set up.
And the reverse engineered API, if anyone’s interested: (Ox Alpha tried it’s best to make it look good, now it looks like a high schooler tried to create a formal research paper in Word. Oh well.) EXTERNAL_SCREEN_API.pdf (240.8 KB)
(I love how I had to tell Claude to use American standard spelling in the readme. Yes, it’s AI generated, I did review it, and I’m not putting in that much effort for this hobby project)
No I mean there’s a glitch which causes the screen to turn completely white, idk what causes it. As far as I know even a factory reset doesn’t fix it. Its also not a hardware glitch
Cool! I had my outer screen would start mirroring the main screen randomly and phone would have to be rebooted, back when I used a CAT. Outer screen seemed a little finicky to me.
