Finally - A solution for kosher and dpad compatible Google Maps?

OK. Some info on this app, just tried on TCL flip 2:
on latest version, app startup was a little slow, but could have been my phone. some stuff i think should be changed, to optimize for flip phones, too many floating buttons, there are too many stuff onscreen, especially when during drive, you literally cant see anything, as the directions take up almost whole screen.when on map on startup, icons for building are too big.
More info too come.

Dude

Trying it now. Right now using the dumbcourse, from my TCL, i dont have my computer, if I do the bluetooth trick, (thanks apps4flips.com) will it update the Vela maps that I have now, or do I have to uninstall it first?

Don’t know what you’re talking about and no, my build has my own signature.

Yeah, it’s definitely your phone. If you are on a flip phone you will be better served by ars18’s fork.

I am not going to redesign the UI to optimize for flip phones. DPAD efforts I was/am happy to merge, but I’m not going to redesign the UI to compromise the experience for everyone else.

I completely agree with you here. Check it out anyway, it’s adaptive, not forced for all. I didn’t want to do that either, and also needed a unified starting point.

Examples:

Also sent you a couple of pms.

Saw this issue submitted to Vela today:

Don’t know if the author is on the forums, just want to make it clear this is not a personal attack.

Cool idea, but…

@keepitkosher is not making a religious app! This is the same thing like submitting an issue or PR to metrolist, Newpipe, etc… and asking them to implement restrictions.

@keepitkosher’s goal - make the best Google Maps replacement possible, with no Google services necessary.

It was already a plus that there were toggles implemented for some restrictions and wired up throughout the app.

This was my reply:

@keepitkosher I kinda acted on your behalf, assuming I know what you want. Let me know more if incorrect.

Thanks for all your amazing work so far!

Backported many recent commits from upstream for my dpad edition, most notably being voice search. That should be a big help.

@keepitkosher you might want this one (note I have not actually tested the voice search feature with my voice, just the implementation and navigation, this is just an enhancement in top of it):

Also, ppl with dpad phones mentioned above, if at some point you can give me reports so I know I’m not wasting my time.

Everything has been simulated on a TIQ m5, but I can’t account for any weird hardware specific quirks.

@ars18 where do you want feedback, here or on Github?

GH for issues

Reports here too but I’ll forget

Make sure to include device

I don’t only want issues, I need to know when all is working too.

Restricted option (all toggles on be default, toggles removed) added in every ci build.

does this app get police alerts?

I’m not home right now, so I can’t get TripleU MDM unlocked to install (I’ve been checking stuff out in an emulator, but that won’t help for screen and d-pad stuff). Will IY"H test later this week.

Sometimes the arrow where I am gets hidden on the f21 (app version 0.4.542)

What version? And my repo or upstream?

Upstram

What is the link to your frepo? I want to test it
Edit: I found it

Sounds like it has the same issue

Can you please make a GitHub issue with details and those screenshots?

Also specify f21 pro as device
