Would you be able to make a separate version of the map that does not have a option at all to show pictures and links? (Not even though the settings)

@ars18 I’m a bit confused. Did you take over the project of the Kosher maps?
I don’t need it to work for dpad. But I want the restricted mode with all the new updates that vela keeps on putting out.
Is yours better than the original kosher maps? does yours work for all phones, just that it also supports dpad?
Works for all phones.
Just has rules for specific screen sizes and dpad functionality. All happens automatically.
On every release page, you’ll see a restricted build.
This was too good of a thing for our community to pass up.
Also, I’m backporting upstream commits, but as I see fit, and prioritizing stability. I am not updating as fast as Vela is.

Guys aside from issues, if it WORKS, tell me. I don’t really have any of these phones I’m supporting, it’s all simulated.

Not sure what stuff you have/haven’t pulled from Vela, but the speed limit overlay did cause black being painted over all roads when I first put in those tiles. That could be the bug; if not I’m sure you’ll figure it out

maplibre won’t return invisible features from queryRenderedFeatures, so with opacity 0 the maxspeed query always comes back empty.
change lineOpacity to 0.004f fixes it

I’m about to merge a ton of new features and polish into the nightly. You’ll love it.

@ars18 Do you wanna change the app name to indicate the ‘kosher’ version? Maybe something like 'Kosher Vela Map" or something like that.

It might reduce confusion a bit. Not just because our projects will have distinct names, but also because the mods you apply genuinely are better explained by including the word kosher in there. That said, your normal branch doesn’t really add anything kosher afaik, just phone/screen testing (which could be merged upstream depending on your code changes). To me it’s kind of like NewPipe vs NewPipe x SponsorBlock vs PipePipe. PipePipe is just a much better name to describe an app that’s a fork of NewPipe but adds more features, vs just appending another word on it. But it’s your call, not sure what direction you want to go.

That’s what I’m saying, dpad is in the name, I pull most of your commits, some restyling (for an example see I kept the fabs the old way, and search within route temporarily overrides the directions banner, was too crowded on small screens, or my revision of the stack speed and speed limit instead of going with your row.).
There is a ci build that just applies some things by default.
It is pretty much exactly the same like yours when someone installs it on full sized screen.
Only when there is a divergence from the goal do I either skip or just apply your diff if applicable, and I also wait until a new feature says “finally, actually there, proven” 
or something like that in the commit, then I test. But I’ve pretty much been keeping up.
At a certain point when every feature is stable, I would like to stop pulling in as many commits unless I have help, and only keep it maintained. It’s too much.
Just wanna explain some stuff about our forum and broader community, and why everyone here got so excited for your project after seeing the below in GH issues:

Let me start by saying our forum is the best! Duh.
Why
- We have so much info on random obscure devices that nobody outside of the JTechForums/dumpbphone community have even heard of.
- Many of our solutions to issues with these phones (and many apps, PI stuff, root detection, pairip etc…) can be used globally
- Reverse engineering applies to so much of what we do and I love it. Some genuinely crazy going on around here. I know you’d appreciate it if you browsed around the topics here, as you made Vela and continue to RE to keep it going.
This forum mostly discusses topics regarding creating and maintaining responsible tech. The general idea is that users would like to be free of temptation for porn/innapropriate content, while still having benefits of having dumbed down smartphones (flip, bar, normal sized, whatever).
This can include but not limited to decompiling apks and removing webviews or unnecesary features, hosts blocking and other more advanced network configs, and the same (easier) if source is available. Webviews if not removed can become a full accessible browser.
You may ask, why not just have self control? It’s the general consensus around these parts that when it comes down to it, people don’t. You know that saying that applies to many areas, “99 percent of people do x, and the other 1 percent are lying.”
So that would be the reason for such a request or similar.
Why your project was very well received here:
First of all, I’d say 99% of the people here do not care one bit about having google services track them. I’ll post some threads below on community issues in Google Maps:
As well as phones without google services have issues running it of course.
When Vela came along, it was immediately seen as the perfect solution. Thanks for that.
What people did not realize
Most people here have never contributed to a codebase aside from feedback. Most don’t even have a GitHub account.

Also, yeah, people should not be asking to add religious restrictions to a general application, I agree and have stated this quite a few times in this thread.
Here’s the good and the bad, and I believe it applies anywhere, not just in our community:
- Most people say “What’s a github account”, “It’s too complicated for me”, etc… - You will not receive stars from most of your users, especially from here, and from the reach of your app either by kosher ROMs or by bluetooth sharing apks from flip phone to flip phone
- I would love if people donated/sponsored more but as I say, “meh” - You will not receive many donations in general (such is OSS, it is what it is)
- People don’t understand what large efforts go into big projects
- People really only pipe up when there’s issues

Here’s a compromise on the donate button that should satisfy everyone (take it or leave it by me, doesn’t matter):
First of all I realized I needed to update the donate link to buymeacoffee, I included it in this PR. Sorry I missed it.
Second, if the user has no browser installed, and only has system webview, clickable links will show, “Your device does not have a browser” toast on click and disregard webview.

I have taken the time to see what this forum is about, and it’s quite interesting. As an engineer, I appreciate it. I can see there’s quite the mix of technical and non-technical users here, which is quite unique and does offer some different perspectives.
