Thinking having option to block internet completely like for word or to manually open a lists of websites locally using a password - need someone else to set your password I guess
you do know techloq offers for free a filter that just disables internet
Yeah, but I need to have 1 website open… For a Shul’s Luach
Lol! I love that attitude. Building a full foss filter just cuz you need something for a project
Well why should I make them pay for it and also i believe that we need a free one
Even on block plan certain websites are open. For example their own website. Maybe something like your redirector can work here so techloq.com should resolve to your website.
I actually seriously agree with you. He needs it for this situation, with one specific site. Someone else will need it for a different situation with slightly different details. Hence the need for a FOSS solution that is easily tweaked for everyone’s use case. It would be great if this actually ended up happening.
dont think that will work
they probaly just disable wifi or something intesed of blocking intrernet
Does anyone know of any other ways to filter the device to one website?
Claude’s idea
Hosts file as a poor man’s whitelist — point everything to 127.0.0.1 except the allowed domain. Crude, but free, and works on any edition. Edge/Chrome will load the one site and fail to load anything else. But its Easy for a tech-aware guy to undo, so pair with a password-locked admin account.
Or
CleanBrowsing / NextDNS / ControlD with allowlist policy — set DNS to a custom upstream that returns NXDOMAIN for
everything except the one domain. NextDNS free tier supports this and is far more robust than a hosts file because it
survives a clipboard-paste of a different URL.
The first option is what my work place did (bein hazmanim job)
Did it work to keep you out?
what about parentel controls?
How do I set that up?
Yes but
So basically I can’t tell you how good it is but it worked
Hosts dont support wildcards last I checked. So for that to work, to point “everything” to 127.0.0.1 would mean listing every. single. website. ever. which we both know is impossible
You would need to find a method to make sure the user doesnt just switch it, and I dont think thats very easy. Plus a vpn would get around that
This is for a Shul Luach, I don’t need to make it that complex
I only need to allow one site not even the full domain just a web page
