Hardware requirements to build Android from source

what are the specs needed to play with a rom?

Not much.

I did a lot of work on an i5 8th Gen and 16gb ram. Can go less.

Not building from source obviously.

I’ve also used an n100.

building with source will work?

Basically cleanup Chinese junk

What?

I’m working with a device sourced from China where the buyer actually managed to get ahold of the original ROM source code, but the factory firmware itself is completely botched with bloated, poorly configured, and broken implementations. Because we have the actual source code, my goal is to set up a clean build environment.

Not gonna happen on a potato.

Building will probably make your potato into french fries.

32gb ram will work?.
currently i am working on 16.

a lot of people told me that ill not be able to work like that (every time Gradle builds something i have a 5 minute break) but i kept pushing

I believe you will need 64gb minimum, and about 300gb disk space.

ok, thanks for the advise

Speed will be mostly CPU related, but you’ll need at least enough RAM for any success. 32GB will be enough to start.
I recall consistently building from source on a Ryzen 7 2700X with 48GB RAM (w/ addtl swap) in around 2019. It didn’t take more than a 2.5 hours IIRC. But things have changed.
Use Linux
