This guide explains how to install eGate using the Android Enterprise QR code enrollment method. This setup installs eGate as the Device Owner, giving it full control to enforce system-wide restrictions (app blocking, web filtering, factory reset protection, etc.).
Important Notes:
- This method only works on newer Android smartphones.
- Not compatible with flip phones. Works well on devices like CAT S22 Flip, Qin F21 Pro, etc.
- This process will completely wipe the device.
1. Start with a Factory Reset Device
To begin Android Enterprise enrollment, the device must be freshly reset. If the device isn’t already wiped:
- Go to Settings > System > Reset > Erase all data (factory reset).
⸻
2. Boot to Setup Screen
Turn on the device and wait until you reach the “Hi There” or language selection screen (the very first setup screen).
Tap the center of the screen 6 times quickly.
⸻
3. Scan the eGate QR Code
Use the device’s camera to scan the Android Enterprise QR code on the eGate GitHub releases page.
⸻
4. Connect to Wi-Fi
Follow the prompt and connect the device to a Wi-Fi network.
The device will now:
• Download the eGate Device Owner profile.
• Install the eGate agent.
• Lock down the device according to the assigned policy.
Once complete, the device will have eGate fully installed.

Troubleshooting
- QR Scan Not Triggering: Make sure you’re on a fresh setup screen and tap exactly 6 times on the language picker.
- Device Unsupported: Some cheap or older Android phones (especially flip phones) do not support Android Enterprise enrollment.
- eGate Not Installing: Double-check that the QR code is valid and internet is working during setup.
