How to make the Hebrewbooks harddrive compatible with Windows 10/11+?

This is the old hebrew books harddrive that was sold 10+ years ago. Worked fine with Windows XP

Im not really a techie, but as far as I;ve been able to find works by makeing some sort of local imaginary network

On windows 11 Clicking on the app shortcut opens a webpage that points to http://127.0.0.1:64646/ or http://127.0.0.1:54298/
which just gives a cant connect page.
I allowed the progam through window defender but that didnt help

Any ideas?

is this otzar hahochma?

Have you tried running it in compatibly mode for windows xp? Doubt it would work because the issue is in the local host but it doesn’t hurt to try.

Do you get an error code?

Its installed on the laptop or running from usb?

Can the program still be downloaded?

This is not Otzar Hachachma.

Like 10-15 or so years ago Hebrewbooks.org offered a hardrive of everything they had at that point. It runs off of an externa harddrive. They havent offered it in years.

Ill try compatibily mode. and get back to you

You will need to download a modern version of the server they use, I don’t have the details at the moment, and set up your own batch to use it to run the web app. But you also need to copy a dll to system32 to get search to work

UltiDev Web Server but it looks like the site is down, you’ll have to find it archived

Anywhere I could get this? Could you share the content? What format is it saved in?

Got this from my friend Claude, I am assuming that it will need to be through Microsoft edge with internet explorer mode

This?

You can use Chrome, just make a batch script to open it to the appropriate page

@BenTorah thanks. once i activated .net 3.5 from windows features it works if you open it from within the program you linked.

2 further questions:

  1. when you activate .net 3.5 it needs to download the needed files from windows. ANy idea where I can get the said files for an offline instialtion?

  2. maybe this is beyond my tech ability, but how would I set it up so that I can get it to work with a single double click as opposed to the more lengthy proccess openign it through the progrma you linked?

Thanks again…

I live in JLM. You’re welcome to come by and get it… Its over 400GB, more or less everything that was on Hebrewbooks in the middle of 2009.
