Google apps donโt really work to modify you need an old one and then maybe it will work no guarantees
Why would a old one work over a new one?
Over the years Google has been making it harder to mod their apps.
The older the app, the more likely it is to be modifiable.

PSA for anyone using hosts or DNS to block maps pictures and street view, new versions of maps seems to have redone street view.
Either change your strategy or block updates.
