Laptop VS Mini PC
Mini PC vs Laptop
anyone Recommend?
Not a comparison
They are the same thing, one has a screen, keyboard, and battery.
Do you need portability?
here is my uncertainty!
Laptops tend to break all the time!
(especially the 1k or under ons)
Mini Pc,
which is lot the same(internal) thing as a laptop, won’t break as fast,
and a desktops, could be found for cheap, and the PC can alway be plugged in to a different desktop!
I do plan on using this as my Main computer/laptop!
I Do NOT do anything heavy,
but I definitely want it to be decent and long lasting!
Thank you so much
Pretty much IS the same internally. Laptop parts without keyboard, screen, and battery. Great concept.
You want something durable? Buy decommissioned thinkpads. New wave of T14 gen 1s (go for amd) on eBay.
Just bought a family member a T14 Gen 1 Ryzen 7 4750U 16GB RAM 512GB SSD for about $260. Battery came in at 70% health. If I want a new OEM battery it’s about $40 to replace.
Some will say to go decommisioned latitudes as well but I have no direct experience.
What’s your budget?
$500
if a higher costing device is worth the investment then maybe more! 7/8
You can most definitely spend $500, but it’s like buying a jet to fly 2 people.
If you want to spend the full $500 I can make some recommendations.
Yes $500 is very good reasonable,
any recommendation?
laptop vs mini PC?
Looking at current pricing, if I were you I’d definitely go with decommisioned Lenovo Thinkpad T14 Gen 1 (AMD Ryzen 7 4xxx or 5xxx) for best value.
There are many on the forum who disagree with me on these points but that’s my 2 cents.
Should last you MANY years, and if/when it breaks they are generally very easy to repair.
jet to fly 2 people?
You said you are not doing anything heavy.
Anyways, getting something for $500 that’s new in 2026 does not provide nearly the same value as something that was made a few years ago and had been decommissioned by large companies.
I believe any MSP will tell you the same.
He may have some latitude recs as well.
Lenovo Thinkpad T14 Gen 1 (AMD Ryzen 7 4xxx or 5xxx)
Thanks a million
(Would you mind sharing a link, for a new one, (would love if it’s amazon) I am terrible at these things I would mix up and get the wrong thing)
Not getting a new one for $500
And Amazon is terrible for these things. Sellers there are marketing to non technical people and raise the price significantly.
If you want something new you gotta pivot to another product.
The whole reason these are cheap used or refurbished is because there is an influx of new eBay listings due to companies decommisioning perfectly good hardware on a cycle.
how much is a new one?
(maybe a Pc it’s the same “internal”)?
@ars18 ?
