does it work with at&t as almost every kosher phone i’ve had has issues with it
also i have to ask what the obsession with putting keypads on kosher phones ,we all know it is a filtered smartphone why do we keep trying to pretend it’s not, it just increases the price for the consumer

sorry if that sounded harsh ,but i’ve just always been confused why one these brands doesn’t just get one of these cheapo android phones and put their own os on it from the factory ,as it seems that is essentially what they are doing anyways but with custom hardware which increases the price for no reason
For kashrus you are 100% correct. But you need to consider the people buying it, if it looks like a smartphone (technically it is) then many people wot buy it. This phone will anyways look like a smartphone as pointed out by @TripleU here.
Because of that many people would not buy it, I don’t want to walk around with a smartphone either but I would use a Mindphone, but many people won’t.

The Mind Phone isn’t for everyone. If people have a problem with it being too expensive, there are other cheaper options available.

My problem isn’t necessarily the expense it’s the fact that’s is more expensive that it needs to be ,though having seen other people’s supplies I understand where they are coming from, also in terms of high quality alternatives they’re not that many because most of the very high quality ones also have more apps than my yeshiva would be willing to allow

How is it more expensive than it needs to be?
How much does the hardware cost them?
How much are they paying to develop its software?
What are their profit margins?
What do you want them to do differently to make it cheaper?

Mainly since the large quantity of them aren’t that durable say fig I would much rather just get a cheapo non-custom phone from a factory in China and then put their own version of Android instead of spending money getting semi or fully custom phones , now it is true that I’m not involved in any of these companies will so take all I am saying with a grain of salt but from my perspective it seems like this would be a logical choice seeing as I can get a large quantity of okay smartphones for less than $200
Or quite frankly I would be happy if there’s an option like the eli Samuels but for cheaper smartphones like the nothing cmf , my main point really is that it seems like there’s a bunch of options for how to make cheaper phones and I’m just confused why the market isn’t addressing them
Really not as professional as having a locked bootloader, even if as secure.
You might say, chances are they have vbmeta signed with test keys, so you can relock. Not secure. Duh
Also, when you manufacture a phone, there isn’t as much of a need for RE. Build from source. It’s THEIRS, completely.
You may argue that you can use phones that are already custom ROM supported:
How you gonna block edl or brom properly?
Find a phone that you can use a custom avb key, AND you can block brom/edl, and you have an argument.
Here’s an example, OnePlus 8 5G UW, can lock the bootloader on custom ROM, great phone, cheap, but MSM tool can resurrect that thing from the dead, no kosher ROM can stop it.
There is place for both products:
- Manufactured - must be more expensive
- Reflashed - very valid for most ppl, won’t get the same level of security and can be cheaper due to lower costs
Both are valid products, the latter not being as valid for technical people. For most it’s fine. Won’t ever get a hechsher, which is another story entirely.
Disclaimer: me saying all this doesn’t mean I think that every phone manufactured as opposed to reflashed is “secure”. Definitely not.
I think companies need to more their development to America with people who understand the needs of this niche industry. You need weird ppl (not in a bad way) to accomplish these things.
One more thing:
I don’t know if these numbers are exact, but we agree that it’s alot.
How many do you think they manufacture at a time? Do you think kosher phone manufacturers even come CLOSE to manufacturing and selling those amounts?

First things first thank you I appreciate the in-depth reply it makes much more sense now that I understand the software difficulties better. Also there are a lot of Chinese companies that just make smartphones in very large quantities to be rebranded down the line and sold by other brands and so my question was why don’t they use those which you answered very well thank you
