You could try the attached firehose with edl it worked for my sonim xp3800 verizon.

Use This tool and run edl r boot boot.img —loader prog_emmc_firehose_8909_ddr.mbn That should pull the boot.img for magisk.

Here is the original boot from my xp3800 verizon you can patch it.

can I use the same thing for an at&t version? after patching it with magisk, how will I be able to flash it if the bootloader is locked? I’ll have to use the firehose? is there a big chance of bricking when using edl? do I need an xml pointing the the partition?

Will have to research the regulations to see if the law is actually on our side.
Might have to find a phone that fits all the right criteria to be able to force T-Mobile into cooperating.
BTW, I’ve tried before, and gave up.
But I’m not interested in either of the two apps that you proposed.
What I do want is:
Backup the files from your phone with edl patch your boot.img and flash with edl. Use adb reboot edl to boot the phone to edl.
