Has anyone tried this phone in Europe? Eastern Europe or western asia?
Yes I did, works very well
For anyone on telus (this listing was just put up)
https://www.telus.com/en/mobility/phones/sonim-xp3plus-5g
Did they?
I donāt have this version but maybe they fixed it. Maybe even the AT&T version fixed it
keep us posted (what changes)
For some dumb reason they decided to hide my apk installed apps from the main menu⦠reinstalling them brings them back though
The only thing I noticed added was in the battery settings āUSB Power Savingā but it mightāve been there before but I canāt remember. They didnāt fix any bugs that I can see⦠Keyboard is still messed up ![]()
Aside from that I donāt see anything different
OK NEVER MIND THIS HIDES MY INSTALLED APPS EVERY TIME I RESTART MY PHONE GARBAGE UPDATE DONT UPDATE!!! It also reverts my re-arranged icons
What did Richard Nixon do with Sonim
??
Does anyone have experience putting on Google spy services and Android Auto or anyone made a custom ROM or even root?
never touched this phone. My exploit definitely wonāt be compatible.
Sonim phones arenāt flashable or rootable.
Unless you hack their servers to get a firehose or find a kernel or bl vulnerability ![]()
We both know I tried ![]()
Ok I have been using this phone for a long time now so decided I will update how it is (and also because I didnāt really try it that long when I wrote about it the first time)
Its a nice phone, its big, but its for a good reason, the screen is very very good, its really clear and bright, and I only used it at about 40% brightness, has a lot of built in storage (20GB usable) and a lot of RAM (4GB), it does have a good few problems though
Proās
- The battery, it lasts very long. Charging is even better, it took less then a hour to charge from 10% to 85%, Iām not joking you can try this yourself, after it reaches near 90%, it charges much slower, probably to protect the battery life
- I PAID for in flight Wi-Fi using this phone, and I was able to call and text normally, and not just that, I was even able to use hotspot to share my Wi-Fi with other peoples phones, and they were all able to call and text normally too as if they had service
, and the battery didnāt really drop much faster, or even get hot - If were talking about airplanes, I will also say the Sonim XP3plus 5G works great in europe, 90% of the time I had 5G service (and the other 10% was the carriers fault, so this will only improve)
- Apps like Waze, Jtech, Weather, and other messaging apps work excellent
- You have 2 extra shortcut buttons
- The two buttons on the outer screen is very useful, you can turn on the flashlight with it, see your call history and call back, see new text messages and silent the volume, all without opening the phone
- Comes with a built in Visual Voicemail. You can hear voicemails, save them and put them on your USB/Hard Drive, you can even set if you want your calls to forward to a number if your unreachable or didnāt pick up (This really depends on your carrier, I think only T-Mobile is this nice)
- Messaging: Groups work, it looks nice, you are able to see if someone read your MMS (although I never seen it say āreadā even though the person did read it)
- The camera on this phone wins the best flip phone camera Iāve seen, a single picture can be 3MB
- It has a headphone/aux slot
- The quick settings on the main screen is very useful
Thereās obviously more but thatās all Iām gonna say
Service Stuff:
- Phone calls sound great thanks to the 5G and good speaker, text messages send fast, I donāt think I have lost service with this phone, I even kept on getting service over 15,000 feet above the ground and was able to send text messages
. I tested everything airplane related with this phone, it passes everything, It might even survive if you threw it off the plane, but please donāt try to even test that - I tested it with T-Mobile and US Mobile dark star and it worked, with verizon and its mvnos, it did notā¦
- It has eSIM, I never tested it but its a great option to have
- Its 5G NR Standalone, you can tell your einiklech that you still use the same phone before WW3⦠in other words this phone will work in the united states for another 20+ years at least
Bad Stuff:
- I donāt like that the volume buttons donāt control the ringtone volume, I found a way to fix it, but its not near perfect though, and thereās some sound software glitches that I hope get fixed
- There are some apps that are pretty sad that donāt work, like google maps, and the mouse works, but it has a lot of glitches that make me just not want to use one at all
- Not a big issue but Wi-Fi calling goes on and off for no reason, atleast for me
- No mute button in the messaging app
- And like everyone who used this phone knows that the keyboard works terribly, double clicks happen often, and the buttons just donāt respond, especially when used fast. The T9 app just makes it worse, at least this time they added to be able have a personal dictionary unlike the other kika keyboard versions
This is a excellent flip phone, but the 2 main things I hate about this phone is the unresponsive keyboard and it doesnāt work with all carriers, but this phone still is in my opinion one of the best flip phones out there
Thank you for your attention to this matter
Enough to run Gemma 1B (yes, I tested Gemma on the X520).
A lot of phones are like this, read reports never work with just MMS, even though itās supposed to be able to.
Which mouse?
I didnāt have any problem using @wheredidmysleepgoās C9 or @sh7411usaās Pointer with it.
I hope I donāt have to tell you to use TT9.
Compared to the Xp3900?
How much experience do you have with it?
I would love to buy one the only thing stopping me is
I have an xp3800 and thatās why i am getting a new one
can you explain a little more it is a big thing for me
On message+ it does show read, although it depends which phone the person you text has, and if they have RCS enabled
I tried @sh7411usa ās pointer, couldnāt get it to work. KCO mouse did work but its not the best experince
I donāt know anything really about the XP3900
The problem with this one is that its like that out of the box
can you explain a little more it is a big thing for me
Google map just crashes when you open it, and its not just google maps, its all google apps
I tried @sh7411usa ās pointer, couldnāt get it to work. KCO mouse did work but its not the best experince
Why not C9?
On message+ it does show read, although it depends which phone the person you text has, and if they have RCS enabled
Explain?
If they have RCS then it does or doesnāt show read reports?
I like matvt better its more fluid
