T-Mobile 4G Shutdown

Well, the idea is that if they upgrade all their 4g infra to 5g, it should be as reliable as 4g is now

On a broader not about many posts int his thread:
I’m not a fan of this move, but that’s because I don’t want all of our 4g devices to stop working. T-Mobile probably put serious thought into this decision, and ultimately decided it’s the best move for their business. I doubt a bunch of bochurim (myself included) on Jtech know better.

That’s a point, however from the other end I’m sure Verizon also put alot of thought into deploying SA 5g and decided to hold off and leave everything on non-standalone 5g and keep calls on 4g even when data is on 5g.

T-Mobile is just trying to advance the latest technology as they desire to.

However that doesn’t mean it won’t give complications to the consumer, the latest technologies don’t necessarily make life more convenient.

When it came to shutting down 3g there was more of a necessity, Internet speeds were barely loadable, phone calls weren’t so clear. However 5g phone calls vs 4glte (with a good signal albeit) don’t really make a difference, there is no reason to use 5g besides for Data, unless they are just tinkering around to test the latest technology at the expense of the consumer.

I thought 4g for calls is here to stay for another decade or two?

It is. T-Mobile (unofficially) said they are not completely shutting down 4G LTE until 2035

5g Standalone means calls are also 5g

@ys770 Did they say specifically why the lines were being shut down?

yeah, because they’re moving off of 4g

How come I don’t see anything online that other people were also affected by this? How many people do you know got their T-Mobile service cut off?

2G still works. So flip phones that can connect aren’t totally not working.

Most phones that are 4G also can work on 2G (somewhat)

Not sure what this is all about. My 4G TMO flip is working fine, so are others

A. could be 2g
B. I’m not sure either, some people i know were disconnected (many) others not :man_shrugging:

MVNO’s still good, right?
(Just switched from warp to dark Star)

yeah

Dark Star is at and t so it wouldn’t effect you anyway.

Lol, I switched to dark Star thinking it was T-Mobile!

Does anyone know why Us mobile has a non-functioning
game of snake on their app?

I used to think dark star was T-Mobile too. Maybe because how chaotic the dark star SIM card package looks?

BTW it started working again for 4g phones, was definitely down for a bit and was told they stopped supporting 4g. Not sure exactly whats going on, but for now its still working

light speed is tmobile and darkstar is att

Anyone here remember when UsMobile TMO was just called “GSM”?
