Do you have anything that is Something?
First, on any computer that does not have a filter. The bare miniumu is to set the DNS to cloudflare’s 1.1.1.3 and 1.0.0.3 DNS.
This will block adult and malware sites.
Here is a link to their website, this is also good to set on WiFi hotspot’s.
This is not a filter, rather the bare minimum and is completely free.
And it is a good practice to have an admin user and a regular user and use the non admin user for default.
techloq filter works on dual boot??
You can add a dual boot without asking the filter
Gentech blocks it unless you ask
Lol. Talking about emailing an individual to open a site…
I originally tried Netspark, Gentech, Purifeye, and one or two others before I ended up with Techloq. Each filter was worse than the next. Half the content gets blocked, the wifi works maybe 50 percent of the time, and the “OK Google” commands while driving almost never work, which is exactly when you need hands-free assistance the most to make calls or send texts. Meanwhile, streaming YouTube videos that are blocked as embedded links somehow works perfectly, and using sites to download YouTube music also works to watch full videos without downloading anything. It’s practically impossible to have a foolproof filter if the browser is open and pictures aren’t grayed out, etc… I’m not sure why I’m ranting here.
Back to the point… I needed a filter that fit my needs and hopefully would run faster instead of everything slowing down from going through all the VPN layers and servers before getting back to my device. So I called TAG to see what they could offer, and that’s how I ended up with Techloq. But anytime I need a webpage or app unlocked, I have to contact support. Usually I reach Techloq directly, and about 60 percent of the time I get a non-613 technician. The other 40 percent of the time I get a 613 technician who tells me, “I’m so sorry, TAG oversees your account since you signed up through them, so we can’t make adjustments.” Then all you have to do is reply again and ask to unlock it, and the email will most likely go to a non-613 Techloq worker who can actually unlock it…
It’s like a merry-go-round. Each one says to message the other. Honestly, I’m paying $130 a year and I’m not even sure for what besides having a filter on my device that filters to some extent. I’m happy to have a filter, just pointing out the drawbacks.
Change to Techloq direct, they have awesome support.
If you are under TAG then they will give you a run around.
It’s very simple.
Half (or most) of what you’re paying is for Techloq’s customer service.
You’re not paying TAG a penny.
In my experience (Techloq Windows Desktop), Techloq is way better than Gentech in every aspect.
Gentech suffers from both bugs and incompetent customer service. Their staff is based in third world countries and they have zero understanding of the needs of the frum community. They will open content that a frum tech would never allow.
On the other hand, most of Techloq, is run by frum Yidden. While they do have some staff who are not frum, the majority are heimishe Yidden. Any issue I’ve had was resolved promptly, and when needed, escalated to experienced Level 2 technicians.
With Gentech, I’ve heard of YouTube being unblocked when searching for videos through Google. Even after their agents were notified multiple times, it took persistent follow-up to get it fixed, and the problem kept recurring.
When channels and Meta AI were released in WhatsApp, Gentech did not block them immediately. It took them weeks before they sent an email saying that media could be fully blocked to block the unwanted features.
In short, I found Gentech to be an unreliable filter with agents who often create more problems than they solve, while Techloq is a solid, dependable filter, and I’ve had almost no issues with them.
I highly recommend Techloq.
i find for tech reasons gentech is better they are more flexible i.e. wsl
It’s possible that Gentech has better support for WSL, I’m not familiar with it. I’ve used Techloq with a VPN, and they were able to adjust settings to resolve issues affecting secure access and IP address usage. I find them to be very flexible.
WSL notwithstanding, +1 for Techloq. Good design, strong implementation, very decent customer service.
Not a Techloq vs Gentech, but there was a recent change to either Tailscale VPN, or to Techloq that caused the VPN not to be able to open. This is the first time that I was on the phone with them for more than an hour, but they still could not fix it. So I asked them to test it themselves and let me know and they later emailed me the changes that need to be done in order for it to work.
For troubleshooting they had to use TCPView and Procmon from sysinternals.
