Here’s my own $0.02:
Almost nobody cares about a phone not being stock android. It’s fine if the settings app looks the same as other android phones.

its usually a less frum way of saying that its harder to bypass the filter imo
The thousands of owners of Light Phones and Sunbeams clearly do.
They don’t care who made the app.
They care about frontend.
The UX of whatever’s on the phone.
Google Sync & Backup and Android Auto doesn’t have to a UI on the phone not made by them.
I was gonna write except maybe @Dev-in-the-BM_2.0 but then I couldn’t remember for sure that it’s you who loves customized Android.
Who said that’s why they have the phone? Clearly? Maybe they bought it for other reasons
That’s the entire shtick of The Light Phone.
It’s own hyper minimalist UI.
There’s no other reason to get it.
There’s a massive difference between customized UI and specifically E-Ink or Grayscale. Yes, users of Light prefer heavily modified Android because that’s their whole shtick but whether Settings says “Apps & Notifications” or a separate menu for App Settings and Notifications makes no difference to anyone. Even if you change the sizing of items in the list.
The point isn’t exactly how it look, the main idea is that it shouldn’t be as slick and engaging as Androids M3E.
but if thats where they are putting their time and effort…its better put elsewhere
I assume you did research on the market?
Know what people looking for detox phones want?
Because this phones isn’t targeted to you.
It’s aimed at those smart enough to realize that phones designed to swallow up your life aren’t a good thing, and that’s a lot bigger market than the kosher phone market.
Interesting discussion here. Waiting for someone to say that UI and UX doesn’t matter because of willpower™
Serious question, and I’m not necessarily saying you’re wrong, but how do you know this? Did you research it?
How do I know that this is what people want, or that this is who these companies are targeting?
How do you know which market is bigger?
I once crunched the numbers of the Jewish market.
It’s maybe like 150k - 300k.
While the market for minimalist phones, just in America, is probably 500k to millions.
You can also figure it out yourself without any math.
Digital minimalism is trending among Gen Z.
Although the majority are still sticking to their smartphones, a growing segment are switching to dumbphones.
That’s obviously bigger than all frum yidden in the US.
But you are just assuming things. How are you getting to these numbers?
These
Publicly available stats (census, studies, school enrollment, etc) on the number of Orthodox Jewish adults and teens in America, x the percentage that use kosher phones, and you end up with a rough guestimate.
I did the research a while ago, I don’t remember exactly how I got to those numbers.
Source?
Whats that % and how do you know?

Feel free to do more research yourself, and correct me if I’m wrong.
I last did research a while ago, I just quickly looked things up again to answer you, but what I’m giving you right now might not be completely accurate.
