This company is promising the world. Who are they, and what’s the technology behind their filter? Without knowing that, it’ hard to appraise them properly.
Geder is behind it, it still has many rough edges and is definitely not ready for businesses.
IF everything that they claim is accurate then it will be massive.
That answers half of my question…
They’re promising amazing performance with no downsides- if that’s to be believed, what technology is backing that, and why have all other filtering companies missed it?

Are they claiming to have an OpenCV model with minimal system requirements that can also accurately detect and filter nisht content in real time? That seems unlikely, given that local AI models are generally terrible and even the big dog companies struggle with AI filtering even when it’s all done on their servers. As you said, time will tell. But I’m going to remain skeptical.
Open CV is Artificial Intelligence even before the word became popular. the firs version was released in 1999 already. Google claims that it uses very little RAM.
I saw from a user that is using it, that the filter initially uses around 1.2gb of RAM at startup but then goes down to around 700 mb.
For reference, I have an empty notepad open and it uses 89.8 mb

Instant is better than non-instant… but the question is always going to be comparable to alternatives.
I have it on two device (desktop and mobile) and I see it depend on the processing power of the device; the better it is, the much less notable the performance hit is (one of my devices is a very old CPU, and BTW something like this would also make use of more modern iGPUs, and over there it’s pretty slow - and they officially do not recommend it on such old hardware. But on mobile - also not a flagship but a modern device - it’s much better.)
But he says that the fact that the page took “seconds” (instead of milliseconds…) to load may have had to do with his internet and not the filtering.

I have a little more info about the filter.
First regarding the issue that @TripleU mentioned that sometimes links get blocked and non technical users will not be able to request access because it is a link that loads in the background. By emunet if something gets blocked on a page, you will get a pop up of some sort with the link that is blocked and you can request to have it opened.
Secondly, it will support deployments for many computers at once. What that means is that a msp can have installers for customers and will automatically get installed as part of onboarding a new computer.
The filter will also be able to be controlled through command line and an rmm.
It will be able to be managed through group policy as well.

I personally am willing to sacrifice some speed and performance for better accuracy.

2 more points that I forgot to write. Geder told me that that their goal is to give their customers their best filter. They put a big emphasis with security and is the first heimishe filter that none of your data will leave your device.
I also spoke to someone that said that he built a universal uninstaller for the filter already…
