Trick to Unlock a TCL Flip 2

I saw a trick on DansDeals Forums how to unlock a TCL.

Before you start your phone for the first time put a SIM card that would generally not work in a locked device and it will unlock upon turning on. According to the source this was fixed on KEKA software version and this trick no longer works.

I bought a TCL a while back and opened it tonight. I figured it isn’t KEKA so I put my US Mobile Warp (Verizon) SIM card in, and it didn’t work! After turning it on I checked what version it was running, which was KEEZ and I updated to KEFH and then I rooted it…

If anyone has experience with this and can explain what I did wrong please share.

I would point out (may not be relevant) that right when I bought it I activated a TracFone SIM with a different phone and the I transferred that service to this phone and it’s SIM (expecting this to make it eligible to unlock). So being that the IMEI in their system was already activated maybe that effected the “trick”.

Im not sure if there was an actual trick. I remember buying probably close to 100 on Amazon and they all came unlocked. Until the KEKA ones started coming, and those were always locked

I think people confirmed buying new locked ones and it worked.

Anyone here can confirm this?
(I believe it was only refurbished ones… which were unlocked anyways…)

@ys770 Can I just buy cheap locked TCL’s and unlock it by flashing the ROM from unlocked version?

No the lock is not located in the super

I heard the TCL doesn’t have that. also even if yes, there’s also a lock in the phone’s software itself…

If it is also IMEI based, has anyone successfully written IMEI on the TCL? (I don’t know anything about editing IMEI)

As far as a I know, it hasn’t been done

I once saw on GitHub that it’s impossible to change the IMEI on this phone.

I have a tcl that is filtered by tag and the unlock codes does not work, there is any solution for this?

None discovered.

It’s an issue caused by the Rom being downgraded to older versions for the kosher Rom to be flashed.

However if i may ask did TracFone first say it should automatically unlock, then after that u asked them for a code?

Where did you get the unlock codes from and where did you try putting it in?
