@sam-club I believe people used this app on phones other than the TCL and it worked. Can anyone confirm this version works with WebView, without having any browsers installed?

I can’t because I can’t uninstall Chrome because I’ll have a rough time with my filter afterwards

Anyone with a Qin that can test this?

Can someone explain what exactly is webview?

WebView Explained (Short & Simple):

WebView is a “mini-browser” embedded inside apps to display web content without opening a separate browser (e.g., Chrome).

Key Points:

  1. What It Does:

    • Lets apps show web pages, HTML, or JavaScript content directly within the app (e.g., in-app login screens, news articles, ads).
  2. Why It Exists:

    • Saves developers from reinventing the wheel: they can reuse web tools (HTML/CSS) inside native apps.
    • Users stay in the app instead of switching to a browser.
  3. System WebView (Android):

    • A standalone Android component updated via Google Play.
    • Critical for security/performance, as outdated versions can cause app crashes.
  4. Examples:

    • Facebook’s in-app browser.
    • Email apps rendering HTML emails.
    • Hybrid apps (e.g., banking apps using web-based interfaces).
  5. Not Just for Android:

    • iOS uses WKWebView; similar concepts exist on all platforms.

:warning: Note: If apps crash, updating Android System WebView (via Play Store) often fixes it.

TL;DR: A tool apps use to display web content internally, like a browser window baked into the app.

@kosherboy already found a fix its called mulch webview its a chromium webview

You have to have root for that to work.
Many flip phones can’t be rooted.

the tcl flip2 is rooted

Send link, please.
TNX.

GeckoView need to work without root on all modern android phones

But there are other phones that had the same issue.

This is the way I got the WebView version to work. But it would defenitaly be helpful if you do it a different way.

What is LineageOS vs Android OS?

Two different operating systems like iOS and Android if I remember correctly lineage is actually based off Android

Can it install apk files and run play services?

Yes

Android is a type of OS, and Lineage is a version of Android. Usually android devices are made by companies that build in bloatware and annoying features into the Android system (such as company apps, info being shared with the company or advertisers) and Google Play Services, which some people don’t like for privacy reasons. LineageOS is basically a stripped down version of android with just the essentials so it runs faster and takes up less space, and it’s open source so there are no privacy concerns.
